Single Rope Knot Necklace
Textiles are at the core of the jewelry and furniture designed and made by Atwater Village artist Tanya Aguiñiga, who knots, twists and dips these necklaces and bracelets, and skins furniture in wool felt. Tanya was raised in Tijuana, and as a member of Border Art Workshop BAW/TAF, a bi-national artist collaborative for the last decade, the border experience is a constant source for her work: The interconnectedness of societies, the beauty in struggle and the celebration of culture, she says. Her collaborations extends to the San Diego Museum of Art and RISD. She was also included in the 2010 California Design Biennial. Each of her pieces is a one-off since each is individually created and dip-dyed. Simply sublime.
