New England-based brothers Chris and Will Haughey launched Tegu Toyworks in 2009 to not only create environmentally sound toys that inspire unscripted play. They also wanted to address unemployment, education, the neglected natural and human resources and urgency for entrepreneurship in a faraway country they were in love with, Honduras. You geography buffs might spot where the company name draws from: the Honduran capitol of Tegucigalpa, commonly known as Tegus. In an effort to preserve rain forests in that country, each tree used in Tegu products is selected by local Honduran tree cooperatives and for every one tree used, the company replants 100 saplings.
