Balance-Wu Design's
Recycled Paper Pulpop Mp3 Speaker
Turn up your Mp3 player—and your green cred with this speaker—yes, speaker—made of recycled paper pulp. Paper is usually not a great vessel for sound. But the hollow loop provides enough surface area to distribute sound, and the recycled paper quality acts as a filter (and is surprisingly light). Sound is amplified to 5 watts by vibration inside the speaker’s hollow space. Young designers Chin Yang and Balance Wu are behind the full-creative workshop based in Taipei, Balance-Wu Design. The pair went through several trials and tests to reach a speaker they could happily blast with volume and quality. A rechargeable 3.7V/600 MA battery or USB outlet keeps it powered. Biodegradable without the wires.
