Yeh Design Lab's
Petal 133 Necklace
The biomorphic effect of this impressive work conjures both the floral corollas itís named after and the tentacles of an exotic sea creature. Worn on top or under an open shirt, this bib of 133 laser-cut kid leather petals stunningly frames the wearerís neck and face.
As with the more minimal Petal 18 necklace, each petal is individually interlocked by architect-turned-accessories designer Yi-Hsiu Yeh and her team, without any glue, hardware or stitching. The backside of this piece is nearly as beautiful as the front. The clasp at the ends of the kid leather strings securely interlock.
The design of each bracelet, bag or shoe is carefully considered in the hands of Yi-Hsiu, who founded Yeh Design Lab in 2010 to explore the creative, technological and expressive possibilities between architecture and fashion. For Yi-Hsiu, itís about examining ways to challenge collective intuition and perception, while exploring the possibilities advanced technology and traditional fabrication. She and her team personally spread out the cowhides for the collection and individually handle each piece along the process.
As a college teacher and parent to a toddler she shares with her architect husband, the Angeleno has also realized the need to feel unburdened by what a modern multi-tasker wears. She accomplishes this beautifully.
