Mix up some martinis, decant a bottle of wine or pour some iced tea with this seemingly floating carafe. From Chicago-based designer Felicia Ferrone's signature Revolution range, liquids appear to defy gravity and float in this handcrafted borosilicate tableware made by master glass blowers in the Czech Republic. The carafe belies the collection's thermal utility—it's oven, microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe.

“I’ve always known I wanted to work for myself, and I always knew I wanted to be in some kind of design director role," says the founder of Fferrone. “It really wasn’t until the Revolution Collection of glassware that it finally happened. It allowed me the opportunity to figure out all the ‘moving parts’… that couldn’t be done well while working for someone else.” For Chicago’s Felicia Ferrone, that followed an initial stint as an architect in Milan working under notables such as Antonio Citterio and Piero Lissoni.
Minimalist contours, an unwavering attention to detail and an often whimsical sensibility characterize the designer’s much-awarded work, both for her own company and for clients such as Boffi, Volume Gallery and Covo. “I knew I also wanted to be free to pursue design with established brands along with more self-directed work,” adds Felicia, “and having my own studio allows me that freedom of choice.”
