PD2 was literally rescued from the dustbin of history. First designed in 1955 by architect Barba Corsini as part of the remodeling of Barcelona's famed La Pedrera, the lamp's base is inspired by the building's vaulted ceilings while the cylindrical shape of the chimney finds expression in the perforated lampshade.
However, in 1991, La Pedrera was restored to its original Gaudí decor and Corsini's furnishings were thrown away, only to be rescued from the trash by noted gallerist Joaquim Ruiz Millet, who later worked with Corsini to revive his work. Now produced by Copenhagen's Gubi, the lamp is available in either black or white to attract a whole new generation of grateful devotees.
