With a stable of young creatives, artisanal brand Atipico seeks to renew the "Made in Italy" design heritage. In the Tamburo series, collaborating designer Antonino Sciortino explores iron wire as a medium, a journey he originally began while learning blacksmithing arts in his brother's workshop. Hand-crafted wire in a narrow parallel grating with a powder-coat finish makes for a strikingly spare table as well as an rumination on geometric form.

“We stand out for continuous research on materials,” says Gianluca Corbari, co-founder with his brothers Enrico and Maurizio and creative director of Atipico. “But also the traditional ones like wood, iron and ceramics, reinterpreted with a contemporary language. We’re trying to bring out the soul of the materials.”
The upstart Milan-based brand proudly labels its offerings “strictly made in Italy” and works with many designers who seek out the company for its passion for design. Young talents like Federico Angi, Fabio Meliota, Antonino Sciortino, Carlo Trevisani and Zaven “know about historical techniques and Italian productive culture,” says Corbari. “I ask them to find that detail, that extra stroke that makes the difference, but without making a product that is over-designed.”
