Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel designed the ND55 in 1955, when most of Danish design was committed to being earnest. The Ditzels preferred play. At rest it reads as a plain, soft-cornered table in solid oak or walnut — then lift the hidden side leaf, slide it toward the center, and the surface grows by 30cm. Room for a crowd. Brushed brass fittings mark the joints where the mechanism does its quiet work.
