Dining Table Butterfly

Karimoku has been making furniture continuously since the early 1960s — not as a heritage exercise but because the pieces were never discontinued. The Butterfly dining table belongs to the Karimoku 60 collection, which grew out of the 60VISION project: a 2002 initiative by designer Kenmei Nagaoka to revive products representing Japanese companies' origins. The ethos is long-life design — built to be repaired and kept rather than replaced. The move is in the mechanism: at rest, just under 34 inches wide, right for two or three. The leaf folds up from beneath while the legs slide outward, extending to just over 51 inches — one person can do it, nothing to store. Beech frame, sliced-veneer top, available in walnut, mocha brown, or pure beech.
