No matter how you flip them, these bookends hold their weight. Stand them up for oversized books; tip them the short way for paperbacks and CDs. Either way, the glossy powder-coated aluminum form provides a minimal, graphic effect to any shelf or desk. Use the bowl-like depression of the base for paper clips, coins or other small bits. Out of his Munich studio inside a former post office, Klaus Hackl realizes projects as sweeping as cutlery to the interior of a light rail, and always considering simplicity and daily behavior. He studied industrial design at the Munich Polytechnic Design School, then to the Saarbrücken School of Art and Design, where he would eventually teach. His greatest schooling, however, came under the mentoring of Andreas Brandolini and Konstantin Grcic, and as senior designer at the Jasper Morrison Office for Design in London. His designs for furniture and products for Magis, Side by Side and others around Europe have lead to awards and acclaim. But it's these bookends for Eno, in particular, that took the prize in our minds. Books not included.
