Originally crafted in the British countryside by simple craftsmen, the classic Windsor chair was the springboard for Lucian Ercolani. Dining Chair represents his modern take on the seating that he first adapted for production in 1943—and it remains a mainstay of Ercol’s Originals collection. The chair bow is steam bent from a single straight ash rail and joins the back spindles in the classic configuration. A comfortably shaped saddle seat meets the legs with traditionally durable wedge joinery, the leg stump hand-sanded flush with the seat, and with additional strength provided by the H-underframe.

Marking the 100-year anniversary of Ercol in 2020, the company reorganized under the moniker of its founder Lucian Ercolani as a premium brand that embodies the classic collection he pioneered as well as new works from an international slate of designers like Norm Architects, Jonas Wagell, and Lars Beller Fjetland. Under Edward Tadros, current chairman and grandson of “the old man” as Lucien is fondly remembered, the legacy of well-built furniture continues at its headquarters in the English countryside village of Princes Risborough
Best known for the iconic midcentury Originals that are still produced today, Ercolani developed a contemporary version of handmade British furniture initially inspired by classic Windsor styles. After surviving the Great Depression, two world wars, several recessions, and global competition, the company moves robustly into a new century buttressed by its uncompromising values and unstinting craftsmanship.
