Petite Machine Light: Floor 01

Designed by Flemming Lindholdt for Made By Hand

This elegant but playful floor lamp perhaps best illustrates architect-designer Flemming Lindholdt's concept of fluidity of form in his Petite Machine series. With its idiosyncratic name taken from Danish rock band Kashmir, silhouette reminiscent of the 1930s and a color palette nabbed from the 1950s—but rendered in cool contemporary tones as well as a breathtaking all-brass version—Flemming takes his inspiration from all corners. But the heart of the design is the interaction of two circular forms, the base and the shade, and the functional intersection with the tube and mounting in order to allow 180-degree movement, a flawless example of the Danish craftsmanship tradition.
