Like a magical transparent sheet caught in a breeze, Qin is a sculptural floor lamp that suggests illumination can fold and bend like light rays themselves. From the series Gweilo (Chinese for ghost), it's the brainchild of Toronto-based design studio Partisans and handmade in Spain by Parachilna. The lamp's thermoforming process starts with an etched optical-grade acrylic sheet that is manipulated into the signature folds and curves while the material is molten and still pliable. A metal edge with an embedded LED strip is then affixed vertically to the cooled transparent sheet to diffuse the light across the etchings and intensify the illumination. Available in a choice of 2 sizes, Qin makes for a striking focal point or ad-hoc room divider.
