The dazzling Plumen series upended any existing notions about LED light bulbs and drew kudos from the design world. And the hybrid Plumen 003 is quite literally a crowning jewel, offering the warming glow of candlelight with the focus of a spotlight. Like a faceted gem, the gold inner element designed by French jeweler Marie-Laure Giroux creates ambient refracted illumination, tempering any glare from the LED. Yet the majority of the light is projected downward from the end of the optic. Contained in a pear-shaped glass shell fashioned by product designer Claire Norcross, the gold element appears to float.
Singly or in a cluster, the 003 pendant makes for a dramatic focal point over a dining table, bar area or at bedside. Energy-efficient, with a 10,000-hour lifespan, the central spotlight corresponds to a traditional 60W bulb while the surrounding atmospheric light limns that of a decorative filament bulb. All in all, a deft feat of practical magic to entrance in any setting.
