Elogio Sofa by Gubi × Tobia Scarpa
What makes the perfect deep seat sofa? Something you can melt into after a long day, deep enough for naps, movie nights and curling up with the people you love. Here are ten we keep coming back to.
First, what counts as deep? A standard sofa seat is about 21 to 24 inches front to back. "Deep" starts around 23 to 25 inches, and "extra-deep" is 25 inches or more. That's enough room to tuck your feet up or share the cushion with someone. Taller people usually want 23 to 24 inches just to sit upright comfortably. The measurements below are overall depth, front edge to back, with seat depth noted where the maker lists it. Anything past 40 inches is built for lounging.
Taylor Sofa by Stellar Works × Yabu Pushelberg
1. Taylor Sofa: The deepest on our list, at 50.8 inches. Taylor is fully upholstered with one sweeping curve, and the designers named it as a nod to the word "tailored." It comes in two lengths, 94.5 or 110.8 inches, so it can anchor a room either way.

Quilt 3-Seater Sofa by Established & Sons × Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec

Margas 3 Seater Sofa: LC4 by &Tradition × Louise Liljencrantz

Collar Sofa: 3 Seater by Woud × Meike Harde

In Situ Modular Sofa: 3 Seater by Muuto × Anderssen & Voll

Rico Lounger Sofa by Ferm Living

Polar 3 Seater Sofa by Karimoku New Standard × Moritz Schlatter
10. Karimoku Polar: The Polar Lounge Chair stretched to sofa size: big, round, soft shapes on Japanese oak feet. The finished back means you can float it in the middle of a room. It's the most accessible price on the list.
40.9" d · 15.3" seat height · from $4,325
Before you buy: Overall depth tells you how much floor a sofa takes up. Seat depth, seat height and cushion fill tell you how it feels. A soft feather or down top over a supportive core lets you sink in without bottoming out. If you can, sit before you buy. Our LA showroom is open Monday through Saturday, 11 to 5, and we're happy to pull spec sheets on any of these.
