From Saga to Los Angeles: A Celebration of Heritage and Design

On August 21, we teamed up with ARJ Los Angeles to host the opening reception for Saga Craft: 350 Years of Nabeshima Ware, bringing one of Japan’s most celebrated porcelain traditions to the U.S. for the first time. The evening drew a lively crowd of design lovers, collectors, and friends to experience the fusion of historic craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Guests were welcomed with sake from Saga—one of the region’s proud specialties—alongside Japanese bites prepared by fellow ROW DTLA residents Pikunico. Special attendees included Yoshinori Yamaguchi, Governor of Saga Prefecture; Shuuji Hataishi, fifth-generation master of Hataman Touen; and Kengo Kabashima, founder of Ariake. Their presence underscored the cultural importance of the event and highlighted the living connections between heritage and innovation.

Throughout the night, visitors explored Nabeshima porcelain displayed in conversation with Ariake’s contemporary furniture. The first 80 RSVP’d guests received a Nabeshima sake cup, a keepsake of this rare occasion. The reception celebrated not only 350 years of craftsmanship but also the enduring dialogue between tradition and modern design, leaving a lasting impression at ROW DTLA.
