Description
In either the small or large version, this refined table lamp designed by Space Copenhagen reads as an elegantly composed minimalist statement. Gravity plays on the idea of nature’s push/pull in the contrast of its heavy cylindrical base and airy lightweight shade. Choose from the lamp base in either luxurious marble or robust blackened steel as apropos for its setting while it provides gorgeously even illumination.

Now led creatively by the couple’s son Jacob Gubi Olsen, Danish brand Gubi was originally founded in 1967 as a vehicle for the modernist furniture designs and textile catalog of husband-and-wife Gubi and Lisbeth Larson. Under Jacob’s watch, the company added a global focus to its roots in Copenhagen with a cosmopolitan array of furniture, lighting and interior objects. Alongside standouts from the 20th century, he has introduced a new generation of designers from companies such as GamFratesi, Space Copenhagen and OeO Studio.
“I started out with two very strong designs, Bestlite—a Bauhaus collection designed in 1930—and Gubi Chair, designed in 2003” Jacob says (both available at A+R). “I felt they had something in common,” he continues. “Iconic appearance, functional design, high quality, aesthetic design language and adaptable for many different kinds of interiors. I took these values as a guideline for any new designs added to the collection ever since.”
