Londoner Mathias Hahn's modernist Scantling Floor Lamp takes its name from an old unit of measurement for the way a piece of wood is cut. Similarly, his design for Barcelona brand Marset contrasts man-made metal with natural solid oak. A graphic geometry of line serves to unite these dissonant materials. Precise craftsmanship of the hinged wooden arm allows the shade to be fully adjustable without counterweights or springs. Though it definitely sets a mood, the Scantling's direct beam of light also makes it a perfect reading lamp.
